In April 2024, the VHB (the German Academic Association for Business Research) released a new publication media rating, known as the VHB Rating 2024. There was agreement within the association that the previous rating required renewal. However, specifying the rating terms with regard to the needs of all VHB scientific commissions was a challenging process. The newly published paper aims to review the fundamental discussion on journal ratings, outline the VHB’s objectives for VHB Rating 2024, describe the negotiation process that led to a solution being found, explain how the solution was implemented, and critically discuss the rating results.
