4 questions to Sven Müller

What fascinates you about Choice-Based Optimisation?

Choice-Based Optimisation combines different methodological approaches: normative science (optimisation) and empirical science (econometrics). At the same time, we work at the interface of several disciplines - economics, business administration, psychology and mathematics. This combination makes the field incredibly exciting.

What challenges and opportunities do you think early-career researchers face?

The high pressure to publish comes up against increasingly scarce resources. Nevertheless, academia offers enormous freedom to develop your own ideas and work in an interdisciplinary way. Those with curiosity and perseverance can achieve a lot.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by the unexpected connections that can be made between different disciplines, and by the exchange of ideas and understanding of different approaches that this can facilitate. This is where I learn the most and discover new perspectives on familiar problems.

And what else?

I hope that the importance of business research in politics, society and academia will increase. Its methods and findings help us to better understand complex challenges and make well-informed decisions.
