WCGE Summer School: Normative Arguments and Practical Implications

30. August bis 3. September 2026 | Wittenberg

Beschreibung / Description

Research in business ethics grapples with the challenge of connecting rigorous normative reasoning to pressing real-world problems such as artificial intelligence, leadership, and political corporate responsibility in organizations. This requires not only well-developed normative arguments, but also a clear understanding of normative methods, the role of empirical insights, and the pathways through which ethical research can inform practice.

The Summer School offers doctoral researchers a structured learning journey that moves from foundational questions to applied contexts. It begins by introducing the building blocks of normative argumentation and key philosophical methods, such as reflective equilibrium, conceptual analysis and the practical syllogism. Building on this foundation, participants engage with current debates in areas including AI ethics, leadership ethics, and political corporate responsibility, examining how normative reasoning operates in complex, interdisciplinary settings. The program also includes a discussion about how normative research can be translated into organizational practice.

Participants also have the opportunity to present a current research project and receive constructive feedback from both peers and distinguished scholars. This session is designed as a supportive space to discuss work in progress, refine research questions, and gain diverse perspectives across disciplines.

Through a combination of lectures, interactive workshops, and peer exchange, participants develop the ability to articulate and justify their normative assumptions, position their work within broader ethical debates, and present their research in ways that resonate beyond disciplinary boundaries. The Summer School thus equips doctoral students with both conceptual rigor and practical skills to advance impactful research in business ethics and related fields.
