Who is Who in VHB ProDok
Meet the lecturers of the VHB ProDok programme
Joachim Grammig is currently Professor of Statistics, Econometrics and Empirical Economic Research at the University of Tübingen. He was previously Professor of Economics, in particular Finance, at the University of St. Gallen. Together with Jantje Sönksen and Erik Theissen, he teaches the VHB ProDok course Advanced Topics in Asset Pricing and Capital Market Research. His research focuses on empirical asset pricing and financial econometrics, aiming to combine financial theory with econometric methods.
What fascinates you about asset pricing and capital market research?
The combination of economic theory, empirical methods and practical relevance is unique. I'm at the interface of finance and econometrics and enjoy travelling back and forth between the two areas. This is also fun in teaching, for example in the ProDok course that I offer together with my wonderful colleagues Jantje Sönksen and Erik Theissen.
What challenges and opportunities do you think early-career researchers face?
Education is the ‘magic bullet’, particularly for children from disadvantaged backgrounds. Compared to other countries, scholars in Germany enjoy a lot of freedom – you just have to make the most of it. Until you obtain your doctorate, your focus should be on the joy of knowledge, and I wish that for everyone. However, the time limit after obtaining a doctorate is still a significant issue, particularly for women.
What inspires you?
I am inspired by students of all ages who are genuinely interested in acquiring knowledge and inspired by teaching. It's a two-way process.
And what else?
The show must go on... :)
But if everyone in the family is doing well, and I can ride down the mountain bike trails without any problems, then almost everything is fine.
Who is Who - About this campaign
VHB ProDok lecturers are distinguished by their strong research skills, internationally recognised expertise and high level of professional commitment. Most of them have been involved in the ProDok programme for many years. As part of the 'Who's Who' campaign, they share insights into their personal motivations and what participants can expect from their courses in short interviews.
The campaign aims to demonstrate that VHB ProDok offers much more than just a course programme. It is a network of dedicated scientists from the German-speaking region and beyond who prioritise sound research, methodological quality and collaborative exchange.
