Who is Who in VHB ProDok

Die Referentinnen und Referenten des VHB ProDok-Angebots

Professor Dr Dr h.c. Roman Beck holds the Chester B. Slade Endowed Chair at Bentley University in Boston, USA. His research focuses on the economics of blockchain and distributed ledger technologies, particularly their impact on economic systems. Dr Beck has been teaching the VHB ProDok course 'Blockchain in Business Research' since many years.

4 questions to Roman Beck

What fascinates you about blockchain in business research?

The blockchain economy is a new form of institutional value creation. It enables secure transactions between strangers. Additionally, new forms of cooperative value creation that are algorithmically implemented and neither spatially nor organisationally restricted are possible. This is equivalent to overcoming the typical issues associated with previous collective value creation.

What challenges and opportunities do you think early-career researchers face?

Decentralised economies can provide private and public goods through new types of quasi-cooperative organisation. This gives rise to new institutional logics. The combination of digital and economic expertise enables young scholars to study these new institutions.

What inspires you?

I am inspired by constant interaction with others and my belief that knowledge is an obligation.

And what else?

I always keep it like my own doctoral supervisor: 'I don't want to know what's not possible!' :)
