More Information and Registration
This course is designed to equip students with the tools and knowledge to navigate the entire research process, from generating impactful ideas to producing structured, publishable articles in corporate governance. Students will develop a deep understanding of researching corporate governance dynamics while mastering the critical skills required to publish in top academic journals. A key aspect of the curriculum is learning how to move from early-stage research ideas to effectively selecting and targeting journals for publication.
The course will also introduce students to the role of artificial intelligence (AI) tools in research, encouraging them to critically assess and debate the integration of AI for data analysis, literature reviews, and even manuscript preparation. Students will explore how AI can enhance the research process, while also debating the political and practical considerations of using these technologies in academic work.
We go beyond conventional governance topics to encourage students to rethink the field through multiple epistemic positions and transdisciplinary approaches. The curriculum introduces a diverse range of theoretical frameworks and research methodologies, challenging students to broaden their perspectives. In doing so, students will be equipped to engage with complex, interconnected challenges in corporate governance, from both academic and practical standpoints.
Key topics will include board processes, leadership dynamics, trust, and power structures inside and outside the boardroom. Students will also examine critical themes such as board composition, diversity, identities, and organizational structures, as well as the impact of ownership types on governance models. Theoretical discussions will draw from frameworks like the behavioral theory of the firm and team production, while addressing contemporary issues related to sustainability, responsibility, coloniality and strategy-as-practice.
The course will explore corporate governance across a range of contexts, including listed corporations, family businesses, entrepreneurial ventures, and emerging organizational forms. Comparative analyses across different countries and governance systems will provide a broad, global perspective. Lessons learned from multiple crises and the digital transformation will inform our discussions of governance evolution.
Throughout the course, students will also learn how to strategically select and target academic journals based on their research focus, methodology, and intended impact. This involves understanding the journal ranking systems, submission processes, and tailoring research papers to meet the expectations of specific publications.
By the end of the course, students will have gained the ability to not only generate innovative research ideas but also navigate the complex process of transforming those ideas into high-quality, structured articles. They will be well-prepared to utilize AI tools in their research and strategically target leading academic journals for publication.
