At the Institute of Strategic Management, a Pre-Doc Position (40 hours a week) or Post-Doc Position (30 hours a week) is available, with a start date in mid-September 2026. Members of the institute have published in high-impact journals such as Administrative Science Quarterly, Academy of Management Review, Organization Science, Technological Forecasting & Social Change, MIS Quarterly, Review of Managerial Science, and European Journal of Innovation Management. We take pride in our participatory and innovative teaching and our successful collaboration with major companies in the region.
As an important part of this team, the successful candidate will carry out an independent dissertation project (for a Pre-Doc) or collaboratively develop a research project (for a Post-Doc) on decentralized organizational forms and/or open strategy processes (e.g., Holacracies, Collectives, DAOs, Open Strategy). In the case of a dissertation project, supervision will be provided by Univ.-Prof. Dr. Waldemar Kremser. The future position holder will benefit from the fact that the Institute of Strategic Management maintains excellent relationships with both the regional business community and leading international research in the fields of strategy, organization, business informatics, and computer science. He or she will receive intensive support in establishing an independent research profile (e.g., through joint publications, conference attendance, and integration into existing research networks).
Administrative and teaching responsibilities are moderate and can be tailored to the applicant's skill set.
JOB DUTIES
- Planning and conducting a dissertation or research project on decentralized forms of organizing and/ or open strategy processes
- Building your own research profile through publishing, active participation in scientific conferences, professional development through workshops (e.g., on teaching methods or research methods), etc.
- Independent teaching activities in German and/or English language
- Co-supervising academic theses (bachelor's and master's theses)
- Supporting administrative and management tasks of the institute
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- The successful candidate must hold a completed Diploma/master's degree (for pre-doc positions) or a Doctorate/PhD degree (for post-doc positions) in social and economic sciences, or an equivalent academic qualification; specialization in (strategic) management, organization, business informatics, or data science is preferred
- A solid foundation (for pre-doc) or proven expertise (for post-doc) in qualitative research methods (e.g., grounded theory, hermeneutics, content analysis) and/or methods from the computational social sciences (e.g., simulation studies, data mining, process mining, text mining)
- Very good English skills (level C1) are required; knowledge of German is an advantage
- Programming skills (e.g., Java, Python, MySQL) are an advantage
- Previous publications in academic or non-academic outlets are an advantage
WHAT WE OFFER
- On the basis of full-time employment (40 hours/week) the minimum salary in accordance with the collective agreement is € 3,776.10 gross per month as a Graduate Teaching Assistant holding a Diploma/Master's degree and € 5,014.30 gross per month as a University Assistant holding a Doctorate/Ph.D. degree (14 × per year, CA Job Grade: B1)
